Another Step Forward

I am back on a top-25 streak on the Web.com Tour. Despite a horrific tee shot on the tenth hole and a missed putt from less than three feet on the final hole, I played beautiful golf in the final round of the Mylan Classic and posted a one-over-par round of 72. I finished at five under par for the week, and that was good enough to earn a tied for 10th place finish. It was a very good week for me in the Greater-Pittsburgh area.

There is some major disappointment from my week, too. It is not very realistic to expect to go four rounds and not make any big mistakes, so I can forgive the poor tee shot I hit on the tenth hole of the final round. What is still inexplicable and inexcusable to me is the missed putt from just two feet on the final hole. I know better than to play the "if-I'd-only-done-this" game in life, but that miss did cost me quite a bit. I am rock solid with my putter and hadn't missed any from close range all week, but I just had a bit of a nervous moment and pulled a straight-in two footer out of the hole.

I'd really like to have that one back, but it definitely doesn't work that way. Instead, I'm going to roll with all of the great positives from the past week. I felt way off on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and really wasn't hitting the ball well at all. I stayed positive, though, and did some great short-game and putting work during that time. I found a little something that clicked on Wednesday afternoon, and I chose to believe in myself despite three days of less-than-stellar practice early in the week. I ended up having one of my better ball-striking performances I can ever remember. In addition to that, my short game was very good. If the putter had heated up from medium range, it could have been a special week. All in all, I played great and know that I can continue to improve.

So, I am filled with emotions right now ranging from thrilled to very bummed, but the overarching thought in my head is that I am definitely good enough to compete for victories week in and week out at the Web.com Tour level. And because of my finish in Pennsylvania, I get another chance to prove it this week when I tee it up in the Web.com Tour's Price Cutter Championship in Springfield, Missouri.

I'm going to keep following my map, and I know that I'll reach my goals. Keep it here for updates as I prepare to break through even more this week in Springfield, MO. Thank you for all your support!

  1. Peter, my brother in law followed you at Southpointe primarily because you and your Mom took a few minutes to watch my 1 1/2 yr. old nephew hack away on the putting green.

It was good to see you playing well and I look forward to tracking your career. All the best,
